"Carrying on the flame" innovation - WABISUKE aims to light a flame between tradition and modernity
"Carrying on the flame" innovation - WABISUKE aims to light a flame between tradition and modernity

When you hear the phrase "preserving tradition," you might get the impression that it's somewhat static, that the past is being preserved as is. However, for WABISUKE, tradition is not simply something to be preserved. It is a "spark" that will illuminate the future.
The innovation we aim for is not to preserve the past as it is, but to reinterpret the spirit and aesthetic sense that resides in it in a way that is appropriate for modern life, and to light a new "fire." In other words, we see tradition not as a material, but as a source of energy.

Tradition is not about form, but about spirit
For example, the techniques and actions that a craftsman has honed over decades are not simply a collection of steps, but are imbued with a "heart" that includes respect for the materials, consideration for the user, and harmony with nature. It is this "heart" that WABISUKE values.
We don't see much point in simply reproducing old designs and techniques. Rather, we think about how we can use the spark of tradition to reconstruct the "comfort" and "sense of security" that modern consumers truly need.
For example, the aesthetics of "white space" and "space" seen in tea ceremony utensils from a certain era. How can we translate that into modern lifestyles? Or, how can we adapt the "richness that comes from putting in the effort" of olden times to our current sense of time? We create our products by repeatedly asking ourselves these questions.

Going where business studies alone can't reach
Of course, knowledge of business administration is essential to running a brand. Marketing, finance, supply chain, digital strategy... These are unavoidable areas in modern business.
However, what WABISUKE truly values is "knowing people," that is, looking into areas that cannot be quantified, such as psychology, culture, memory, and emotions.
For example, why do people feel a sense of nostalgia and security when they touch an old wooden vessel? Or why do they feel a sense of warmth and trust when they touch a piece of fabric that still bears traces of handwork? We believe that understanding these emotional dynamics is the key to creating the intrinsic value of a product.
That is why I am expanding my studies to include fields such as psychology, cultural anthropology, and folklore, in order to get in touch with the "memories of comfort" that lie deep within humans.

Technology is both a "means" and a "poetry"
At the same time, we are also passionate about the power of technology: digital tools, new materials, sustainable manufacturing processes—these technologies are like fuel for the fire of tradition in the modern era.
At the moment, we are not actually implementing cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printers or chemical molecular structure analysis, but we would like to venture into these areas in the future, as we believe that these technologies can become new poetic means for giving form to intangible value.
Technology is not just a tool for efficiency, but an "another language" that translates the spirit of tradition into the modern age. That is why we want to learn this language and become proficient in its use.

Learning both ends
"Management" and "people," "technology" and "culture." At first glance, these may seem like polar opposites. However, for WABISUKE, both are indispensable "two ends."
We believe that moving back and forth between these two extremes is the shortest route to harnessing the spark of tradition in the modern world. Without leaning too much to one side, we must understand, translate, and integrate both languages. It is from this process that WABISUKE's unique innovations are born.

Finally - to keep the fire burning
Our job is not to preserve the past, but to carry the flame into the future.
That fire may sometimes be invisible. But it can light up at unexpected moments in someone's life. For example, the quietness of brewing your morning coffee. Or the sense of security you feel when picking up your favorite dish. We believe that such "little fires" warm our daily lives.
WABISUKE will continue to keep that flame burning, lighting a new light in the winds of modern times with the spark of tradition in our hearts.
