Weaving Silence - WABISUKE and the Spirit of Haiku

Weaving Silence: WABISUKE and the Spirit of Haiku
With each passing season, the particles in the air change. The smell of the wind, the angle of the light, the depth of the shadow at our feet—all of these things settle inside of us as pre-verbal sensations.
What WABISUKE values is this "beauty before it becomes words."Haiku is one of the most delicate forms of expression that captures this feeling.
An old pond, a frog jumps in, the sound of water - Matsuo Basho
This poem describes more than just a landscape. It describes a momentary sound that resonates in silence. That sound cuts through the flow of time and imprints the "now" in our hearts.
Just like haiku, WABISUKE's craftsmanship values "white space." Colors and shapes do not speak too much, but simply exist to evoke memories and emotions in the viewer. Just as haiku convey a sense of the seasons through seasonal words, we want our products to convey a sense of time through materials and colors.
A dialogue between haiku and products
For example, the color "crimson" is not just any red, but a slightly dark red just before the leaves fall. It embodies the "beauty of the end."
The leaves fall, and I entrust myself to the soundless wind
This poem brings to mind the way WABISUKE fabric sways in the wind. There is stillness in the movement. Perhaps this is the "power to see the invisible" that haiku teaches us.
Creating things like writing haiku
We choose our threads the same way we choose our words. We adjust the angle of the stitches to refine the sound of the ending of a word. Just as haiku depicts an infinite world within the constraints of 5-7-5, we want to weave an infinite range of emotions within limited materials and shapes.
WABISUKE products are meant to be "felt" rather than "read" like haiku. It is our hope that when you pick one up, you will be inspired to write a haiku—that is the kind of experience we offer.
